This one’s personal to me. Talking about being a digital nomad is a heart felt thing that I can do all day long. In some of my previous blogs, I’ve repeatedly talked about how to become a digital nomad, how I became one, etc.
But what about my opinion on whether you should become one or not? Should you go around the world traveling and also work while you do it? I’m Jessica Garza, a driving force behind Nomad Internet and a digital nomad and today I’llbe sharing my opinion on whether you should be a digital nomad or not.
Well, my opinion is simple – you should become a digital nomad but there’s a catch. The catch is that being a digital nomad is not that straight forward. No doubt the perks are many such as you can work from anywhere, anytime, travel the world, and explore anything you want but there
are some cons too.
The biggest problem that digital nomads face isthe issue of internet connectivity. Let’s take the United States for example – the internet connectivity is not good at all in the entire country. If you are someone who has been to remote towns, villages, or any isolated location, you might know how things are there when someone tries to connect to the Wi-Fi. Either it's slow speed or no network at all.
So, imagine you have client meetings or have to finish your project because its deadline is just around the corner – what would you do? Well, it’s going to be very difficult unless you have an internet connection even in rural areas, remote locations, and isolated areas of the US such as Nomad Internet.
Another big problem that I face as a digital nomad is safety. Not all locations that I visit are safe. Not every hotel you stay in is a safe one. You have to be very careful. And it’s not just about people and crime, but it’s also about the weather conditions. It’s also about how far out the location is – is it in the woods? Are there wild animals around? Who knows?
Food is also an issue. You do not get to eatgood food all the time. You do not get what you want to eat every time. Every place is different and every place has its own culture and cuisine. So, it’s not necessary that you will like all of them.
Rules, regulations, and local laws are also something that you have to be worried about when it comes to visiting new places.
Therefore, being a digital nomad involves alot. There are pros as well as cons to it. As a digital nomad, I get to visit a lot of places, try different foods, and meet new people but also face difficulties like I mentioned above.
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea. If you are someone who can embrace the unknown, then go for it – be a digital nomad.
